Biography

Veena Rajaram, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in pediatric brain tumors, developmental neuropathology, and the pathology of epilepsy and perinatal brain injury.

Dr. Rajaram earned her medical degree at Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College in Odisha, India. She completed a residency in anatomic pathology at Washington University’s Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, where she also received advanced training through fellowships in surgical pathology, pediatric pathology, and neuropathology.

Certified by the American Board of Pathology in neuropathology, pediatric pathology, and anatomic pathology, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2012.

Dr. Rajaram is an Associate Pathologist and Neuropathologist at Children’s Health Dallas and the Medical Director of Anatomic Pathology, Histology, and Electron Microscopy at Children’s. She currently serves as Award Committee Chair of the American Association of Neuropathologists and is a member of several other professional societies, including the Children’s Oncology Group, the Society for Pediatric Pathology, and the College of American Pathologists.

She serves on numerous committees, including the Lab Utilization Committee and Laboratory Safety Committee at Children’s Health and the Program Evaluation Committees for Neuropathology and Pediatric Pathology at UT Southwestern.

Dr. Rajaram’s research interests include malformations of the central nervous system and embryonal and pediatric brain tumors. She has given numerous presentations and contributed to more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and scores of abstracts in her areas of expertise. She is also a reviewer for several publications and serves on the editorial board of the Austin Journal of Clinical Pathology.

Personal Note

When she’s not at work, Dr. Rajaram enjoys reading books of all kinds, watching movies, traveling, and playing the veena, a string instrument that originated in India.
