Biography

Daniel Koehler, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Section Chief for hand and upper extremity surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Koehler holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Notre Dame and earned his medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where he was inducted as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and received advanced training in hand and upper extremity surgery through a fellowship at the Washington University School of Medicine/Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Board certified with subspecialty certification in hand surgery through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2018.

Dr. Koehler’s clinical areas of interest are focused on complex surgery of the hand, wrist, and elbow, including wrist and elbow replacement; repair of wrist and hand arthritis; wrist instability; upper extremity trauma/fractures; reconstructive surgery; microvascular surgery; nerve decompression; sports medicine; and arthroscopic surgery.

Dr. Koehler is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and he serves on three national committees through the Hand Society. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Orthopaedic Association’s Emerging Leaders Program.

He has delivered numerous national and regional presentations, secured several research grants, and published multiple academic articles.
