Biography

Emmanuella Egbonim, M.D., M.P.H., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in general cardiology with a focus on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and cardiovascular imaging, including echocardiography and nuclear medicine.

Dr. Egbonim earned her medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center and received advanced training through a cardiovascular disease fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She also holds a master’s degree in public health from UTHealth Houston.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the National Board of Echocardiography in adult echocardiography, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2026.

Dr. Egbonim is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American College of Cardiology, the Heart Failure Society of America, and the American Medical Association. She serves on the American Heart Association’s Council on Clinical Cardiology Heart Failure and Transplantation Committee.

Personal Note

When she’s not at work, Dr. Egbonim enjoys volunteering at church, spending time with friends and family, traveling, and playing tennis and pickleball.
