Biography
Grace Slater, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in pediatric hospital medicine and hospice and palliative medicine.
Dr. Slater earned her medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed a residency in pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She gained advanced training through a fellowship in pediatric hospital medicine at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She also earned a certificate in clinical research at the Institute for Clinical Research Education in Pittsburgh.
Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022.
Dr. Slater is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Texas Medical Association, as well as, for her compassionate patient care and leadership, the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
Her current research interests include teaching communication skills for difficult conversations, responding to discrimination in the workplace, elucidating cultural health disparities, and incorporating machine learning and artificial intelligence into diagnostic medical care.
She has delivered several presentations and published academic articles related to her areas of expertise. She has also contributed to several peer-reviewed workshops on social justice and responding to discrimination.
Personal Note
Outside of work, Dr. Slater enjoys staying active with running, yoga, and CrossFit; capturing the beauty of people, architecture, and nature through photography and quilting; and celebrating community by singing in choirs and playing music with friends.
