Biography
Heather Dalton, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in palliative care with a special passion for complex care transitions and the care of veterans.
Dr. Dalton earned her medical degree at Creighton University School of Medicine and completed a residency in family medicine at David Grant United States Air Force Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident. She gained advanced training through a fellowship in faculty development at the University of California San Francisco and a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at UT Southwestern.
Board certified in family medicine and hospice and palliative medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022.
Dr. Dalton is the former Medical Director of the Family Medicine Residency Clinic at David Grant Medical Center, where she was twice named Family Medicine Faculty of the Year. At UT Southwestern, she serves in the Section of Palliative Medicine and on the Palliative Medicine Education Committee.
She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.
Dr. Dalton has presented and published widely in peer-reviewed journals related to her areas of clinical interest. She is an ad hoc reviewer for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine National Conference and the journal American Family Physician.
In 2022, Dr. Dalton was named Fellow of the Year by Parkland Health.
