Biography

Hurst (Lanny) Hall, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Cardiology. He specializes in internal medicine and general and interventional cardiology.

Dr. Hall earned his medical degree with clinical honors at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He obtained internal medicine residency training at UT Southwestern, where he also completed a cardiology fellowship, serving as Chief Fellow, and an interventional cardiology fellowship. He also completed UT Southwestern’s Leadership Emerging in Academic Departments (LEAD) Program.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2017.

Dr. Hall serves as Medical Director of Inpatient Cardiology at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital (CUH) at UT Southwestern, where he oversees, manages, and develops inpatient cardiology services. He is also Medical Director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) and Medical Director of the CUH Transfer Center.

He was the physician leader of UT Southwestern’s successful effort to achieve Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification from The Joint Commission and American Heart Association, a national recognition of excellence in cardiac care. He is the Chair of multiple quality registries focused on inpatient care and serves on UT Southwestern’s Clinicians Advisory Committee, chaired by UT Southwestern President Daniel Podolsky, M.D.

Nationally, Dr. Hall serves on the American Heart Association’s Council Operations Committee. He is a member of the North Texas American Heart Association executive committee and will serve a two-year term as its president beginning in 2026. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Medical Association.

In addition to his hospital leadership, Dr. Hall is the Lead Team Physician for Medicine and Cardiology for the Dallas Mavericks. In that capacity, he applies the same systems-based approach he advances in the hospital, focusing on clinical operation and development of care models that support how care is delivered to patients.
