Biography
Ioana Smith, M.D., is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Dr. Smith earned her medical degree at the University of Virginia. She completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and then received advanced training in gastroenterology through a fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical School.
She joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2018.
Dr. Smith was a Fellow representative and is currently a board member for the Texas Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy. She has published a variety of academic articles and contributed to multiple book chapters.
She won the William J. Koopman Award for Excellence in Research by a Resident while at UAB. She also received a Diversity Award from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, one of the society’s Crystal Awards.
