Biography

Jaehyuk Choi, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Dermatology and the Scheryle Simmons Patigian Distinguished Chair in Cancer Immunobiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. A physician-scientist, he specializes in skin lymphomas, melanoma, Merkel cell carcinomas, bone marrow transplants, autoimmune diseases, and cell therapies.

Dr. Choi earned his medical degree and a doctoral degree in immunology at Yale University. He completed a residency in dermatology at Yale New Haven Hospital and gained advanced training through a postdoctoral research fellowship in genetics, also at Yale.

Certified by the American Board of Dermatology, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2025. He previously served as the Jack W. Graffin Associate Professor of Dermatology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Genetics at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

Dr. Choi is the inaugural Director of the Center for Cellular Therapies and Cancer Immunology at UT Southwestern. He also serves as Vice Chair of Translational Science and Innovation in the Department of Dermatology. His research uses genomic and computational approaches to study the molecular and cellular defects in cancer and autoimmune disease. His lab has made important discoveries about T-cell lymphomas that could lead to enhanced cellular therapies for solid tumors.

His work has been published in broadly read journals such as Nature, Nature Cancer, and Blood. His work has been funded by the Mark Foundation for Cancer Research, the V Foundation, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the National Institutes of Health, and the American Cancer Society, among others.

Dr. Choi is a member of numerous professional associations, including the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the American Dermatological Association, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation Research Advisory Council. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

He has delivered numerous international and national presentations, contributed to books including Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, and published many academic articles related to his areas of expertise.

Personal Note

When he’s not at work, Dr. Choi enjoys reading, rooting for Philadelphia sports teams, and hiking at national parks.
