Biography
Jawahar Jagarapu, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in neonatology.
Dr. Jagarapu earned his medical degree from Andhra Medical College in India, followed by residencies in pediatrics at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in England and Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he served as Chief Resident. He then completed a neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2015. He received a master’s degree in biomedical informatics with a focus on data science and artificial intelligence in health care from the UT School of Biomedical Informatics in 2023.
Dr. Jagarapu’s interests include optimizing clinical care of newborns by leveraging emerging technologies using digital health applications, informatics, and artificial intelligence.
At UT Southwestern, Dr. Jagarapu leads digital health initiatives and the billing and compliance team in the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. He is also an Associate Editor of the division’s evidence-based medicine database, Neosource. He is a member of the Parkland Memorial Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Provider Consortium and serves on the Physician Advisory Committee at Children’s Health. At Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, he serves on the EPIC Informatics Committee.
Dr. Jagarapu is a member of the Digital Health Focus Group at the Children’s Hospital National Consortium. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of their Supporting Pediatric Research on Outcomes and Utilization of Telehealth (SPROUT) initiative. He belongs to several other professional organizations, including the American Medical Informatics Association, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, and the Texas Chapter of Perinatal Pediatrics.
He is an ad hoc reviewer for various academic journals, including Health Informatics Journal, Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare, Digital Health, and PLoS One Telemedicine.
Dr. Jagarapu’s research interests include telemedicine and artificial intelligence in health care. He has published numerous articles in academic journals related to his areas of expertise.
