Biography

Kaitlyn Oldewurtel, D.O., is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in general and colorectal surgery.

Dr. Oldewurtel earned her medical degree at Rowan University’s Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey, where she also completed a residency in general surgery. She completed an additional general surgery residency at Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey, where she served as Chief Resident. She gained advanced training through a colorectal research fellowship at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Certified by the American Board of Surgery, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2025.

Dr. Oldewurtel is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Association, the Association of Women Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.

She has delivered presentations and published academic articles related to her areas of expertise.

In 2024, Dr. Oldewurtel received Morristown Medical Center’s Hughes D. Dougan M.D. Award, which honors a graduating chief resident for exceptional patient care and surgical technique.

Personal Note

When she’s not at work, Dr. Oldewurtel enjoys spending time with her family and walking her dog.
