Katherine Johnson, M.D.

Biography

Katherine A. Johnson, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in pediatric hospital medicine.

Dr. Johnson earned her medical degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She completed a residency in pediatrics at UT Southwestern.

Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2013. In 2018, she was among the first cohort of physicians to become board certified in pediatric hospital medicine.

Dr. Johnson serves as the Program Evaluation Committee Chair for UT Southwestern’s Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program. In 2020, she became Medical Director of Utilization Management for Children’s Health and Co-Chair of the Utilization Management Committee. She also leads the Physician Advisor Program.

She is a member of a number of professional societies, including the Society of Hospital Medicine, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American College of Physician Advisors.

Dr. Johnson's clinical interests include medical student and resident education, with a special focus on modeling family-centered, high-quality care. She has given multiple presentations in her areas of expertise and contributed to the book Caring for the Hospitalized Child: A Handbook of Inpatient Pediatrics.

Personal Note

When she’s not at work, Dr. Johnson enjoys wrangling her toddlers, cheering on their ranch rodeo team, and spending time outdoors.
