Biography

Kia Byrd, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in hospital medicine.

After earning her medical degree at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Byrd completed a residency in internal medicine at UT Southwestern. She also holds a master’s degree in health policy from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Byrd joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022.

She is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association, and the Texas Medical Association.

Dr. Byrd’s clinical interests include chronic disease management and disparities in the treatment of end-stage liver disease, and she has published research on these topics in peer-reviewed journals.

Among many other honors, in 2019 she received the Excellence in Public Health Award from the U.S. Public Health Service.

Personal Note

Outside of work, Dr. Byrd enjoys traveling, blogging, and playing chess.
