Biography
Marconi Abreu, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is also the Medical Director of the Parkland General Endocrinology Clinic.
Dr. Abreu is an endocrinologist who specializes in advanced clinical diabetes and related technology. He focuses his clinical practice on Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. His secondary clinical focus includes adrenal and pituitary disease, and reproductive endocrine disorders.
His research interests include Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and reproductive endocrinology. He has published many journal articles, book chapters and case reports related to these conditions.
Dr. Abreu earned his medical degree at Universidade Federal da Bahia, Brazil. He completed his Internal medicine residency and served as Chief Resident at the University of Connecticut. He then practiced as an internist in Fall River, Massachusetts, for four years where he was involved in several community projects in diabetes. He received advanced training in endocrinology and metabolism through a fellowship at UT Southwestern. His passion for education and interest in clinical research in diabetes led him to stay on as faculty at UTSW after completion of his fellowship.
Dr. Abreu enjoys helping patients with diabetes meet their goals by recommending therapies that also help them lose weight. He likes to use diabetes technology and to empower patients to be "in the driver’s seat” regarding their care.
Personal Note
His interests outside of medicine include cooking, traveling, playing the guitar, and following the stock market.
