Biography

Melissa Bellomy, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in cardiothoracic anesthesiology and critical care medicine.

Dr. Bellomy earned her medical degree at Harvard Medical School. She completed a residency in anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident and also gained advanced training through fellowships in critical care medicine and cardiothoracic anesthesiology.

Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2020.

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Bellomy is Director of the Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Resident Rotation, Assistant Program Director of the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship, President of the Women in Anesthesiology Group, and the Patient Safety Officer for the Department of Anesthesiology. She serves on numerous hospital committees, including the Perioperative Safety Committee and the Antibiotic Stewardship Committee.

In addition to her areas of specialization, Dr. Bellomy also has clinical interests in heart and lung transplantation, right ventricular failure, mechanical circulatory support, point-of-care ultrasound, and transesophageal echocardiography.

She is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA), the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG), and the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists. She serves on the SCA Transplantation Committee, the MPOG Perioperative Clinical Research Committee, and the MPOG Quality Committee. She is also an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia.

Dr. Bellomy has delivered national and international presentations, contributed to the book Pocket Anesthesia, and published peer-reviewed academic articles related to her areas of expertise.

In 2021, she earned UT Southwestern’s Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellow Teaching Award and the Dennis F. Landers M.D., Ph.D., Teaching Award.

Personal Note

Dr. Bellomy is a classically trained soprano and enjoys singing, though these days she sings mostly in the car or the shower. She also enjoys watching college football, reading spy novels, spending time with her niece, and eating good food.
