Biography

Michael W. Smith, O.D., is a Faculty Associate in the Department of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in brain injury vision rehabilitation, double vision, and neuro-ophthalmic conditions. 

Dr. Smith earned his doctor of optometry degree at The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He completed a residency in brain injury vision rehabilitation at the University of Houston College of Optometry’s University Eye Institute. While there, he provided eye care to patients who suffered traumatic brain injuries, strokes, and other neurological conditions. He also worked with special needs children and adults.                                                                                       

He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2017.

Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the American Optometric Association and the Texas Optometric Association.
