Biography

Rupali Kumar, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in pelvic rehabilitation medicine.

Dr. Kumar earned her medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Stanford Medicine, where she served as Chief Resident.

Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2018.

Dr. Kumar is Director of the Multidisciplinary Pelvic Conference and Associate Medical Director of the Comprehensive Pelvic Rehabilitation Program. She also serves as the Departmental Diversity Leader for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Dr. Kumar is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the Texas Medical Association, the Dallas County Medical Society, and the International Pelvic Pain Society.

Her clinical interests include pelvic rehabilitation, pregnancy and postpartum rehabilitation, urinary and defecatory dysfunction, chronic pelvic pain, general rehabilitation, amputation medicine, and narrative medicine. She has delivered several presentations, contributed to the book Principles of Rehabilitation Medicine, and published peer-reviewed academic articles related to her areas of expertise.

Personal Note

When she’s not at work, Dr. Kumar enjoys reading, practicing yoga and mindfulness, dancing, sampling international cuisines, and spending time with her family, including her husband, two kids, and labradoodle.
