Biography
Sarah Boostrom, M.D., is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and its Division of Colon & Rectal Surgery at UT Southwestern. She specializes in the treatment of rectal cancer, colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and complicated diverticulitis. Dr. Boostrom performs complex pelvic operations using robotic techniques, including surgery for locally advanced rectal cancers, as well as J-pouch procedures for IBD.
Dr. Boostrom earned her medical degree in 2006 at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She completed her general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in 2011. She then completed her fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic, where she subsequently was on the faculty prior to moving to Texas. She has been practicing colon and rectal surgery in Texas since 2013.
Certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the American Board of General Surgery, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2025.
Dr. Boostrom is the recipient of the Kaare K. Nygaard Excellence in Clinical Research Award. She is a member of multiple prestigious surgical societies, has authored peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and has presented nationally and locally in her areas of expertise.
Personal Note
When she’s not at work, Dr. Boostrom enjoys spending time with family, hiking, skiing, and reading.
