Dr. Hegde earned her medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and received advanced training through a cardiology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She also completed a National Institutes of Health (NIH) T32 research fellowship in cardiovascular imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2025.

Dr. Hegde spent nine years on the faculty of medicine at Harvard Medical School and as faculty in the Cardiovascular Division at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She was previously co-director of the Brigham and Women’s Cardiac Imaging Core Laboratory, one of the largest academic core cardiac imaging facilities globally for Phase 2 and 3 randomized clinical trials. With this expertise in large-scale quantitative echocardiography, her work has highlighted the impact of cardiac myosin inhibitors, a novel therapeutic for patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, on cardiac structure and function.

Dr. Hegde now serves as the Echocardiography Research Director at UT Southwestern. She is also the Principal Investigator for an NIH K23 grant on reducing heart failure risk in late life with physical activity.

She has delivered international and national invited lectures, contributed to the book Essential Echocardiography: A Companion to Braunwald’s Heart Disease, and published more than 50 academic articles related to her areas of expertise.

Dr. Hegde is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. She is also a member of the American Heart Association, the American Society of Echocardiography, and the Heart Failure Society of America.
