Biography

Syed Ahmed, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center and the Associate Director of Neonatal ECMO at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. He specializes in neonatal extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), hemodynamics, and neonatal respiratory diseases.

Dr. Ahmed earned his medical degree at Xavier University School of Medicine in Aruba. He completed a residency in pediatrics and received advanced training through a neonatal-perinatal fellowship, both at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He served as Chief Fellow in his final year of training.

Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in perinatal-neonatal medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023.

Dr. Ahmed has contributed to the book Atlas of Near‑Infrared Spectroscopy in the Newborn and published peer-reviewed academic articles related to his areas of expertise. His research has been published in the journals Pediatric Nephrology; Resuscitation; and Leukemia & Lymphoma, as well as the American Journal of Perinatology

Personal Note

When he’s not at work, Dr. Ahmed enjoys trying new restaurants, entertaining his young daughter, exploring new technology, and playing pickleball.
