New Patient Appointment or 214-645-2020
The Department of Ophthalmology has optometrists who perform comprehensive eye exams and prescribe glasses and contact lenses.
Refraction (the part of the eye exam that determines the need for glasses or contact lenses) is not covered by all insurance plans. Check with your insurance provider and please be aware that you may be charged for refraction if you do not have a vision plan.
To re-order contact lenses, contact Optometry directly at 214-645-2064.
What to Bring
On the day of your appointment, please allow time for parking and patient sign-in. In addition, please bring the following items:
- Current insurance card
- Method of payment
- Complete list of current medications and dosages (including over-the-counter medications, herbs, and vitamins)
To make the most of your time with the optometrist, make a list of questions ahead of time and bring them with you to your appointment.
If This is Your First Appointment
If you are new to the clinic, you can expect your optometrist to perform a thorough visual exam lasting approximately 1 hour.
We try to see patients as soon as possible, and make an effort to never turn patients away. However, emergencies do occur that require the immediate attention of your optometrist, and may cause a delay in the schedule. We appreciate your patience.
Canceling an Appointment
If you need to cancel your appointment, please notify the clinic at least 24 hours in advance so that we can accommodate other patients waiting to schedule an appointment.
Dilation and Driving
A comprehensive eye exam usually requires your optometrist to dilate your eyes, which takes 20 to 30 minutes. If you anticipate your exam will include dilation, you may want to arrange for someone to drive you to and from your appointment.
