May is a wonderful month. It gives us an opportunity to honor our moms, praise our graduates, and marvel at the month’s multicolored floral splendor. Here’s another reason May is noteworthy: It’s Stroke Awareness Month. Each year, about 800,000 people in the U.S. suffer a stroke. For many, the debilitating impacts could be significantly diminished with prompt action and effective treatment.
At UT Southwestern, we know a lot about the importance of timeliness and expertise when it comes to stroke. We’re a Joint Commission-certified Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center – the only one in the Metroplex. That paid off for Mary Alice Stam, who suffered a stroke last year. We invite you to read her story. We invite you as well to think about your health. When it comes to stroke awareness, there’s no time like the present to give it your full attention.
