Biography
Akrita Bhatnagar, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center specializing in the treatment of genitourinary cancers, which includes cancer of the prostate, bladder, kidneys, urethra, and testes.
Dr. Bhatnagar earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from George Mason University, followed by a Ph.D. in molecular imaging from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She subsequently obtained her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and completed a surgical internship at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore. She then completed her radiation oncology residency training at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Bhatnagar is knowledgeable in a range of cutting-edge radiation techniques including stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), adaptive radiotherapy, and integration of advanced nuclear imaging into response-based prostate cancer treatment. She brings a strong background in clinical innovation, academic research, and multimodal cancer care, and is passionate about advancing genitourinary cancer outcomes through precision therapy and collaboration.
Patient education is a top priority for Dr. Bhatnagar. She strives to help patients understand the different treatment options available to them to raise their confidence and help them feel supported every step of the way.
“I believe in having an approach towards radiation oncology with a deep commitment to compassionate care, collaborative decision-making, and patient empowerment,” says Dr. Bhatnagar. “Having trust and open communication are essential in guiding them through the emotional and complex journey of cancer treatment.”
