Biography
Amanda Fox, M.D., M.P.H., is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in providing anesthesia for adults undergoing cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries or interventions.
Dr. Fox earned her medical degree at the University of California San Francisco and her master’s degree in public health with a concentration in clinical effectiveness at the Harvard School of Public Health. She performed her residency in anesthesiology and critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and then went on to complete a clinical fellowship in adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston.
Board certified in anesthesiology and in advanced perioperative transesophageal echocardiography, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2014. She served as Division Chief of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesiology from 2015 to 2022 and in 2021 became the Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management.
Among her other roles, Dr. Fox serves as lead investigator and founder of a multispecialty perioperative genomics, biomarker, and outcomes research group at UT Southwestern. She is also the principal investigator of NIH-funded research focused on biomarkers of acute postoperative kidney injury in cardiac surgical patients and how these relate to adverse renal and cardiovascular outcomes during the years following surgery.
Dr. Fox is an editor for Anesthesiology, the journal of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and active in multiple professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, and the American Heart Association. In addition, she has served as the Secretary/Treasurer and is now President Elect for the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists.
She has delivered many regional, national, and international invited lectures, contributed to several textbooks, and published numerous academic articles and research papers related to care and outcomes of cardiothoracic surgical and interventional patients.
