Amit Zabtani, M.D.

Biography

Amit Zabtani, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in orthopedic oncology, joint replacement surgery, revision joint replacement, and surgical treatment of complex periprosthetic joint infection.

Dr. Zabtani earned his medical degree at Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Medicine in Israel. He completed a residency in orthopedics at Sheba Medical Center in Israel. He received advanced training through an orthopedic oncology surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, followed by an orthopedic adult reconstruction surgery fellowship at UCLA Health.

He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2026.

Dr. Zabtani’s clinical practice includes:

• Orthopedic oncology: Management of primary and metastatic bone and soft tissue tumors, with a focus on limb-salvage surgery, complex musculoskeletal reconstruction, and multidisciplinary cancer care.
• Joint replacement and revision arthroplasty: Primary and complex hip and knee arthroplasty, as well as revision joint replacement, including management of failed arthroplasties, periprosthetic fractures, implant failure, and complex periprosthetic joint infections using advanced reconstructive techniques.
• Patient-specific solutions, implant and PSI technology, and 3D printing: Development and application of patient-specific surgical solutions, custom implants, patient-specific instrumentation (PSI), and 3D-printed models and surgical guides to support complex orthopedic reconstruction and improve surgical planning and outcomes.

He is Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of CustoMED, an AI-driven platform for 3D-printed, patient-specific instruments, as well as Co-Founder of PlanNet at Sheba Medical Center, a 3D health innovation lab.

Personal Note

When he’s not at work, Dr. Zabtani enjoys backpacking, baking, playing the harmonica, and spending time outdoors with his family.
