Biography

David Aguilar, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. A member of the Division of Cardiology, he specializes in general cardiology, cardiovascular disease prevention, and cardiometabolic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.

Dr. Aguilar earned his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he also gained advanced training through a cardiovascular medicine fellowship. He also earned a master’s degree in clinical investigation at Baylor.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular diseases, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2024.

Dr. Aguilar previously served as the Gerald S. and Joan Berenson Chair in Healthy Aging and Longevity at LSU Health New Orleans.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. Dr. Aguilar also serves on the editorial boards of American Heart Journal, Cardiovascular Drugs and Therapy, Circulation, and Diabetes Care.

Dr. Aguilar has delivered numerous national and international presentations and published more than 100 academic articles, reviews, and book chapters related to his areas of expertise.

Personal Note

When he’s not at work, Dr. Aguilar enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with his family.
