Biography

Maria Brito, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Section Head of Thyroid in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. She is also Director of Thyroid Cancer for Parkland Health. She specializes in thyroid nodules, hyperthyroidism, and thyroid cancer.

Dr. Brito earned her medical degree at Universidad Iberoamericana in the Dominican Republic and completed her residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. She received advanced training in in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism through a fellowship at Albany Medical Center in New York and completed the Leadership Emerging in Academic Departments (LEAD) Program at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Certified in internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023. Previously, she served as Director of the Mount Sinai Thyroid Center and as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine.

Dr. Brito is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, and the American Thyroid Association. She is also on the editorial boards of Video Endocrinology and Clinical Thyroidology for the Public.

She has delivered numerous presentations and published peer-reviewed academic articles related to her areas of expertise.

Personal Note

When she’s not at work, Dr. Brito enjoys watching stand-up comedy, Latin dancing, and playing pool.
