Biography

Nawal Shaikh, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Neurology and Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in neuro-oncology, and her clinical interests include biomarkers in brain tumors, brain tumor epidemiology, combination therapy for primary brain tumors, and noninvasive treatments for brain metastases.

Dr. Shaikh earned her medical degree at the Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research in India. She completed a residency in adult neurology at the Allegheny Health Network Medical Education Consortium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and gained advanced training in neuro-oncology through a fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.

Certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022. She previously served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she worked as a neurologist and neuro-oncologist.

Dr. Shaikh is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Neurology, the Society for Neuro-Oncology, and the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin. She also serves on the NRG Oncology translational science and immunotherapy subcommittees.

A prolific researcher, Dr. Shaikh is the principal investigator for multiple studies on brain tumors. She has published articles in peer-reviewed journals related to her areas of interest. Her recent publications also include a contribution to Handbook of Brain Tumor Chemotherapy, Molecular Therapeutics, and Immunotherapy.

Personal Note

Outside of work, Dr. Shaikh enjoys traveling, playing tennis, swimming, trying different cuisines, watching movies, and listening to all kinds of music.
