Biography

Rawle F. Philbert, D.D.S., FACD, FACS, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Dr. Philbert earned his doctoral degree in dental surgery at Howard University and completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Harlem Hospital Center, affiliated with Columbia University College of Physician and Surgeons.

Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Philbert joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2021.

Dr. Philbert serves as Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UT Southwestern. He’s a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Dentists, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Dental Association, and he has held many key regional and national leadership positions.

He has published broadly on topics ranging from trauma to surgical techniques. His work has appeared in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, European Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Journal of Otolaryngology and Rhinology, and other peer-reviewed journals.

Among many other honors, Dr. Philbert received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Lincoln Medical Center Auxiliary, a Doctor of the Year Award from the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation, and a Doctors Day Medical Board President Award from the Lincoln Medical Center.
