Biography
Richard Samade, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in hand, wrist, and elbow surgery.
Dr. Samade earned his medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and gained advanced training in orthopaedic hand surgery through a clinical fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital and the Hospital for Special Surgery. He also holds a doctoral degree in biomedical engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles.
A prolific lecturer and presenter, Dr. Samade joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022.
He has published numerous academic articles related to his areas of expertise, including pediatric and adult upper extremity trauma, quality improvement in hand surgery, basic science processes in bone healing and remodeling, hand and wrist arthritis, arthroplasty, and medical and professional education. In addition, he has contributed to the book Synopsis of Hand Surgery, and he holds four patents.
Dr. Samade is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.
