Biography
Shanti Pinto, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and is an O’Donnell Clinical Neuroscience Scholar at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in concussion and traumatic brain injury, stroke, and spasticity.
Dr. Pinto earned her medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where she also completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation and gained advanced training through a fellowship in brain injury medicine. She is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with an added qualification in brain injury medicine.
She worked at Carolinas Rehabilitation and Atrium Health prior to joining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022.
Dr. Pinto is a clinician-scientist. Her research focuses on autonomic nervous system dysfunction after traumatic brain injury. She is the Director of Medical Student Education for UT Southwestern’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and serves on the department’s Brain Injury Medicine Fellowship Clinical Competency Committee.
She is a member of the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the International Brain Injury Association. She serves on the editorial board for The Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation and American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Pinto has delivered invited lectures, contributed to books and online resources, and published numerous academic articles related to her areas of expertise.
