Biography
Spencer Carter, M.D., is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in preventive cardiology, general cardiology, and cardiovascular imaging.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Carter earned his medical degree at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Chicago Medical Center and received advanced training through a cardiovascular disease fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the National Board of Echocardiography, and the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2024.
Dr. Carter’s clinical interests include social determinants of health, racial disparities in cardiovascular disease, inherited cholesterol disorders, and hypertensive heart disease.
He is a member of several professional associations, including the American College of Cardiology, the American Society for Preventive Cardiology, and the American Heart Association. He is a co-founder and advisory board member for the White Coats Black Doctors Foundation, which started in 2015.
Dr. Carter has delivered presentations and published peer-reviewed academic articles related to his areas of expertise. In 2023, he received the American Heart Association’s Second Century Clinical Research Education grant.
Personal Note
When he’s not at work, Dr. Carter enjoys serving on the medical team at his church, watching the Baltimore Ravens, roller-skating, and spending time with friends and family.
