Biography

Suresh Keshavamurthy, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in lung transplantation, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support, adult cardiothoracic surgery (specifically, coronary artery bypass surgery), aortic and mitral valve replacement, pericardial diseases, and pulmonary thromboembolism.

Dr. Keshavamurthy earned his medical degree at J.J.M. Medical College in India. He completed a residency in general surgery at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India, as well as a residency in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. After working as a Registrar in Cardiothoracic Surgery in New Zealand and Australia, Dr. Keshavamurthy received advanced training through a thoracic and cardiovascular fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.

He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023.

Dr. Keshavamurthy was the Surgical Director for Lung Transplantation at Albert B. Chandler Hospital at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine before he joined UTSW.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, and the Royal College of Surgeons (England, Edinburgh, and Glasgow), among other associations. In addition, he serves on the Thoracic Organ Transplantation Advisory Committee for the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.

A review editor for the journal Frontiers in Thoracic Transplantation, Dr. Keshavamurthy also serves as an ad hoc reviewer for many other journals, including the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Interdisciplinary Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, and the Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery.

He has delivered numerous presentations, contributed chapters to books including Organ Donation and Transplantation, and published several academic articles related to his areas of expertise.

Personal Note

When he’s not at work, Dr. Keshavamurthy enjoys watching sports, playing chess, listening to classical Indian Carnatic music and old Bollywood music, and taking his yellow Labrador, Leo, on walks. He speaks fluent English, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Urdu, as well as some Malayalam and Punjabi.
