Biography

Uriel Sandkovsky, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in infections in immunocompromised patients, next-generation sequencing and artificial intelligence applications for infectious diseases, resistant Gram-negative rod infections, and COVID-19 outcomes.

Dr. Sandkovsky earned his medical degree at the Maimonides University School of Medicine in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He completed residencies in internal medicine at Hospital General de Agudos in Buenos Aires and Columbia University’s St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City. He received advanced training through an infectious diseases fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Sandkovsky joined the UT Southwestern faculty in June 2025.

He previously served as an associate professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he cared for solid organ transplant recipients. He is the former medical director of both the Department of Employee Health at Nebraska Medicine and the Comparative Medicine and the Select Agent Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Prior to joining UT Southwestern, he was an affiliated provider at Baylor University Medical Center and served as a clinical professor of medicine at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Sandkovsky is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and is a member of the American Society of Transplantation and the Transplantation Society. In addition, he serves as an ad hoc reviewer for numerous journals, including Annals of Internal Medicine, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Clinical Microbiology and Infection, and Transplant Infectious Diseases.

Dr. Sandkovsky has delivered invited lectures, contributed to the books The Neurology of AIDS and Contemporary Small Bowel Transplantation, and published more than 65 academic articles related to his areas of expertise.

In 2024, he was included in D Magazine’s list of Best Doctors in Dallas.

Personal Note

When he’s not at work, Dr. Sandkovsky enjoys road cycling, playing tennis, and cooking.
