Biography
Vivek R. Sant, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in endocrine surgery, including hyperparathyroidism, thyroid cancer, thyroid nodules, hyperthyroidism, and adrenal disease.
Dr. Sant received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science at Harvard University and earned his medical degree at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed a general surgery residency at New York University Langone Health and received advanced training through a fellowship in endocrine surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He also completed a fellowship in medical innovation at the Texas Medical Center Innovation Institute, where he went on to co-found a medical device company developing a novel neurostimulator device.
Certified by the American Board of Surgery, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023.
Dr. Sant is an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of various professional societies, including the American Medical Association, the Association for Academic Surgery, and the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, for which he serves on the Information Technology Committee. He has also contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications in his areas of expertise.
He is passionate about using artificial intelligence in translational research to develop tools that will help physicians and patients in clinical decision-making.
Personal Note
When he’s not at work, Dr. Sant enjoys hiking, playing guitar, sailing, and engaging in community service work.
