Vivek Sant, M.D.

Biography

Vivek R. Sant, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Director of Endocrine Surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital. He specializes in the surgical treatment of endocrine conditions, including hyperparathyroidism, thyroid cancer, thyroid nodules, hyperthyroidism, and adrenal disease.

Dr. Sant received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science at Harvard University and earned his medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his general surgery residency at NYU Langone Health, followed by advanced fellowship training in endocrine surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He also completed a fellowship in medical innovation at the Texas Medical Center Innovation Institute, where he co-founded a medical device company developing a novel neurostimulation device.

Certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Sant joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of various professional societies, including the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, for which he serves as Chair of the Digital Engagement and Media Committee.

Dr. Sant is an NIH-funded investigator whose research focuses on improving surgical decision-making for older adults with primary hyperparathyroidism. He is also interested in applying artificial intelligence to develop practical tools that help physicians and patients make informed, individualized treatment decisions. His work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals.

When he’s not at work, Dr. Sant enjoys hiking, playing guitar, woodworking, sailing, and community service.
