The Texas Behavioral Health Center is Dallas-Fort Worth’s first state-funded psychiatric hospital. It is operated by UT Southwestern Medical Center in partnership with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), which owns the facility.

Designed to deliver highly advanced, patient-centered care in a modern, healing environment, the 505,000-square-foot facility will house 292 beds – 200 for adult patients and 92 for children and adolescents when fully operational.

The hospital is opening in phases, beginning in summer 2026. It will provide comprehensive behavioral health treatment and feature private patient rooms, abundant access to natural light and nature, and thoughtfully designed spaces that promote recovery. The center will also provide training to all behavioral health disciplines.

Care now and in the future

UT Southwestern faculty already delivers exceptional behavioral health care across multiple hospital systems and settings, including William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Children’s Health, and Parkland Health. Our care teams integrate pharmacological, psychotherapeutic, and neuromodulation treatments for adult and pediatric patients. If you are seeking care right away, we recommend contacting one of our well-established inpatient or outpatient clinics.

If you are having a medical emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately.

The Texas Behavioral Health Center draws on UT Southwestern’s broad knowledge and expertise to offer advanced clinical programs and introduce new models of care, such as interventional psychiatry, as the facility expands to full capacity.

UT Southwestern is committed to providing much-needed access to comprehensive inpatient mental health services and to setting a new standard for behavioral health care in our community.

Services at Texas Behavioral Hospital are funded through HHSC and provided in partnership with the HHSC State Hospital System.
