When Linda Johnson arrived at UT Southwestern, she was in the third trimester of her pregnancy and suffering end-stage heart failure. It’s said it takes a village to raise a child, but Linda notes that often "it takes a village to take care of patients, and UT Southwestern has that village." Immediately following her cesarean section, Linda's health took a turn for the worse. UTSW specialists evaluated Linda for a heart transplant, which she soon received. Her new heart gave her not only a second chance at life but a first chance to watch her son grow. "Knowing that someone's life ended so that mine could continue is mind-blowing," Linda says. "You can't really wrap your mind around it."
