UT Southwestern Medical Center incorporates behavioral medicine as an integral part of our team approach to pain management.
Our psychologists help patients learn valuable strategies for reducing the intensity of their pain, alleviating emotional consequences of pain (such as stress, depression, and anxiety), and improving sleep and self-confidence.
Some of the behavioral treatments offered at UT Southwestern include:
- Behavioral-adaptive training
- Biofeedback training
- Coping skills training
- Physician-directed cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Physical therapy
- Relaxation techniques
- Stress management
By learning advanced coping skills and other behavioral techniques to help control pain, our patients have achieved remarkable pain treatment outcomes. At UT Southwestern, we strive to provide expert, compassionate care for patients experiencing all types of chronic pain.
Patients with pain-related psychological conditions can also be treated by our mental health service.
