Alexandra K. Callan, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and a Dedman Family Scholar in Clinical Care at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in musculoskeletal oncology and is a member of the Multidisciplinary Sarcoma Program at UT Southwestern and Children’s Health.

Dr. Callan earned her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine. She completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Vanderbilt University and received advanced training in orthopaedic oncology through a fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center. She joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2017. 

Dr. Callan’s clinical and research interests include outcomes in orthopaedic oncology, limb salvage techniques for osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma, metastatic bone disease, and quality of life in musculoskeletal oncology. She has a special interest in teaching residents and medical students.

Dr. Callan is a member of several professional organizations, including the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Personal Note

Prior to her career in medicine, Dr. Callan spent three years with Teach For America, teaching high school science and coaching volleyball, basketball, and softball. In her free time, she enjoys wakeboarding, live music, snowboarding, travel, and adventure.
