Biography
Chaitanya Konda, D.O., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in chronic pain of the shoulder, knee, hips, back, and neck; complex pain syndromes; and holistic treatments using multiple modalities to improve function.
Dr. Konda earned his medical degree at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. He completed a residency in PM&R at the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School and gained advanced training in treating pediatric pain through a fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati.
Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in both PM&R and pain medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2020.
Dr. Konda serves as Director of the Intrathecal Pain Pump Program at UT Southwestern, part of the larger Intrathecal Therapy Program for spasticity, which comprises some 350 intrathecal pumps. He also is the Director of the Simulation Lab Curriculum for the Department of PM&R, where he is currently developing tools for implementing simulation in residency education.
He is a member of the Spine Intervention Society, the Texas Pain Society, the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine, and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, and he serves as an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Pain.
Dr. Konda has delivered numerous presentations related to his areas of expertise and has conducted research related to low back pain, opioid education, and intrathecal therapy for cancer pain. Connected with that work, he is currently piloting the SPRINT Peripheral Nerve Stimulator system for patients with chronic peripheral nerve and joint pain as well as low back and neck pain.
