Jennifer Choi, M.D.

Biography

Jennifer Choi, M.D., is a Professor and Vice Chair of Academic and Faculty Affairs in the Department of Dermatology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She also serves as Assistant Designated Institutional Official for Graduate Medical Education.

A nationally recognized leader in oncodermatology, Dr. Choi provides specialized dermatologic care for patients undergoing cancer treatment. Her clinical expertise centers on the recognition and management of the mucocutaneous complications of cancer therapy, including:

• Skin toxicities related to chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation
• Skin infections in immunosuppressed patients
• Dermatologic complications of hematopoietic stem cell and solid organ transplantation

Dr. Choi has been instrumental in establishing oncodermatology as an internationally recognized dermatologic subspecialty. She founded the Yale Oncodermatology Clinic, established Northwestern’s Division of Oncodermatology – the first of its kind – and is one of the founding members of the Oncodermatology Society. She directs multiple clinical research trials focused on preventing and treating the cutaneous side effects of cancer therapy and advancing evidence-based care in a rapidly evolving field.

Dr. Choi also cares for patients with melanoma, nonmelanoma skin cancer, and rare cutaneous malignancies. She maintains a comprehensive medical and surgical dermatology practice and brings extensive experience with complex therapeutics, including biologic agents, systemic immunosuppressants, intralesional therapies, and phototherapy.

She has had more than 140 scholarly works published, including more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, as well as book chapters and national consensus guidelines. She has delivered more than 100 invited lectures at national and international meetings.

Dr. Choi is a member of numerous professional associations, including:

• American Academy of Dermatology, for which she serves as Chair of the Academic Dermatology Leadership Program

• Medical Dermatology Society
• Oncodermatology Society
• Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society

She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Case Reports and has served on numerous scientific and medical advisory boards.

Dr. Choi has received multiple awards, including:

• The Northwestern Outstanding Teacher Award, Mentor of the Year Award, and Teacher of the Year Award
• Women’s Dermatologic Society Mentor of the Year Award
• Melanoma Research Foundation Compassionate Care Award

She is also passionate about community service and patient education and has provided free skin cancer screenings and given lectures to community cancer support organizations.

Dr. Choi earned a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine. She completed an internship in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School and a residency in dermatology at Yale, where she served as chief resident.

She subsequently spent eight years on the Yale faculty as an Assistant Professor of dermatology. In 2015, she joined the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine as an Associate Professor of dermatology and was promoted to Professor of dermatology in 2022. She joined UT Southwestern in 2026.
