Biography

Stephanie Terauchi, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and the Medical Director of Palliative Care at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in providing comprehensive and holistic palliative care to patients and families facing serious illness. She is an expert in palliative care program design.

Dr. Terauchi earned her medical degree at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine at Baylor University Medical Center.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2015.

Dr. Terauchi’s research interests include the impact of early palliative care on quality of life and survival. She has delivered scores of lectures and presentations and published numerous academic articles.

She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and a member of several professional organizations, including the Center to Advance Palliative Care and the Palliative Care Research Cooperative Group. She chairs UT Southwestern’s Multidisciplinary Pain Management and Opioid Stewardship Committee for Clements University Hospital and Hospital-Based Clinics.

Additionally, she is a member of numerous committees, including the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Palliative Care Advisory Group and UT Southwestern’s Medical Executive Committee.

In 2019, she received the LEAD Capstone Poster Award from UT Southwestern.

Personal Note

Outside of work, Dr. Terauchi enjoys travel, the symphony, playing the piano, and time with friends and family.
