Specialized Expertise in Cosmetic Dermatology
Cosmetic dermatology is the field of medical care, procedures, and techniques that enhance appearance rather than treat disease.
UT Southwestern specialists in cosmetic dermatology offer a variety of safe, effective skin rejuvenation and other therapies to help patients improve their overall image as well as minimize or reverse skin damage caused by aging and other factors.
Reasons to Consider Cosmetic Dermatology
Cosmetic dermatology procedures can improve the appearance of:
- Acne blemishes and acne scars
- Age or “liver” spots, sun spots, and freckles
- Age-related volume loss of the face, including in areas around the temples, eyes, and cheeks
- Unwanted benign skin lesions
- Aging skin issues such as fine lines and wrinkles
- Loose or sagging skin
- Rhinophyma, a condition causing development of a large, bulbous nose
- Unwanted facial or body hair
- Vascular birthmarks, rosacea, and other skin tone issues
Cosmetic Dermatology: Services and Treatments We Offer
Our experienced team of cosmetic dermatologists provides the most advanced therapies, such as:
- Botox® and Dysport® injections: Injected medications that reduce facial lines and wrinkles caused by muscle movement
- Chemical peels: Procedures that improve skin appearance by using chemical solutions to exfoliate outer and middle skin layers to allow new skin to regenerate
- Dermal fillers and injectables: Injectable fillers that restore volume, minimize facial lines or scars, and add fullness to lips
- Hot loop rhinophyma correction: A procedure that uses an electrical cauterization device to remove excess nasal tissue for patients with an overgrowth of sebaceous tissues of the nose; performed with local anaesthesia
- Laser hair removal: A procedure that uses high-intensity light beams to reduce unwanted hair or treat pseudofolliculitis barbae (razor bumps or ingrown hairs)
- Laser therapy: A procedure that uses high-intensity light beams to treat skin issues such as visible blood vessels or vascular birthmarks on the face and/or uneven pigment or sun spots
- Microneedling: A procedure that uses a handheld device equipped with tiny, sterile needles to puncture microscopic holes in the top layers of the skin and encourage new collagen growth
What to Expect
At the initial visit, our dermatologist will evaluate the patient for issues that might be amenable to cosmetic interventions, discussing any patient concerns and selecting appropriate interventions designed to help improve the cosmetic appearance of the skin. Referrals to plastic surgery, oculoplastics, or other departments can be made when appropriate.
