Biography

Matthew Ryan, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in nasal cavity and sinus tumors, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, and nasal polyps.

Dr. Ryan earned his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed a residency in otolaryngology at the University of Florida Health Shands Hospital.

Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2001. He currently serves as Vice Chair for Education and Quality for UT Southwestern’s Department of Otolaryngology and as Program Director for the Rhinology Fellowship.

Dr. Ryan is a past president of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and currently serves on its Education Committee. He is also past president of the Dallas Academy of Otolaryngology. He previously served on the Editorial Board of and as Associate Editor for the journal Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and currently serves as an ad hoc reviewer for several other scholarly journals.

He has contributed to numerous books and published many academic articles related to his areas of expertise.

Personal Note

When he’s not at work, Dr. Ryan enjoys watching college football, hiking, and doing anything fitness-related, such as exercising and weightlifting. He also enjoys traveling to foreign countries to teach doctors from developing countries about the latest in medical and surgical treatment of nasal and sinus diseases.
