Sitaram Chilakamarry, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in colon and rectal cancers, cancers in the young, robotic surgery, and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases.
Dr. Chilakamarry earned his medical degree at Kakatiya Medical College in India. He went on to a residency in general surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital and then received advanced training through a fellowship in colorectal surgery at Brown University in Rhode Island.
Double board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colorectal Surgery, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2020.
Dr. Chilakamarry's clinical interests include minimally invasive management for all colorectal pathologies, including robotic and advanced laparoscopic surgery, and complex redo pelvic operations for anastomotic leaks, pelvic cancers, and their recurrences. He is dedicated to helping patients with all forms of colorectal problems achieve their health goals, including those with pelvic floor disorders, colon and rectal cancers, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and anorectal pathologies.
He serves as the Chair of William P. Clements University Hospital's Rectal Cancer Program. In addition, he is also the Associate Program Director for the Colon & Rectal Surgery Fellowship at UT Southwestern.
Dr. Chilakamarry is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and is a reviewer for the journal Diseases of Colon and Rectum.
In addition to clinical patient care, Dr. Chilakamarry enjoys teaching. He has received the Junior Faculty Teaching Award at UT Southwestern as well as awards for resident and medical student teaching at Yale.
