More places, more specialties for convenient referrals

The UT Southwestern clinical network continues to grow by physically expanding to new parts of North Texas and adding new specialties to the existing clinics to serve an ever-broader patient population. 

Over the past five years, UT Southwestern has expanded beyond its main campus in the Southwestern Medical District to three specialty Clinical Centers in Richardson/Plano, the Park Cities, and Las Colinas, and to an otolaryngology/plastic surgery clinic in Frisco. An additional facility, opening in June, will bring UT Southwestern to Fort Worth as well.

“The goal of these specialty locations is to provide patients – and their referring physicians – access to UT Southwestern expertise and resources right in their own neighborhood,” says Seth Toomay, M.D., Associate Professor of Radiology and acting Chief Medical Officer of Ambulatory Services at UT Southwestern.

Most providers at UT Southwestern Clinical Centers have same-week availability. Here are the recent developments and services for each Clinical Center:

General internal medicine expands to Las Colinas

UT Southwestern has recently added general internal medicine to its list of care offerings at its Clinical Center in Las Colinas.

Staff at the General Internal Medicine Clinic in Las Colinas treat a broad spectrum of common illnesses in adult men and women, ages 18 and older. Among the services provided at the clinic are:
  • Annual exams and Pap smears
  • Birth control counseling
  • Chronic disease management (diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, thyroid disorders, COPD/asthma, and arthritis)
  • Medicare wellness visits
  • Preventive medicine
  • Routine well-visit exams and immunizations
  • Sports and camp physicals
The clinic also offers same-day appointments for new onset of illness and on-site lab services. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

In addition to general internal medicine, the Las Colinas clinic offers a full-service obstetrics and gynecology practice, providing:
  • Annual gynecology exams, including Pap smears
  • Contraceptive management
  • Laboratory services and ultrasound
  • Pregnancy management and prenatal care
  • Treatment of complex gynecologic problems (pelvic infections, endometriosis, and irregular bleeding)
  • Treatment and management of menopausal symptoms

Orthopaedics program augments services in Richardson/Plano

The UT Southwestern Clinical Center in Richardson/Plano recently expanded its orthopaedics program. The clinic now offers both general and subspecialist orthopaedic care, including treatments for the hand, hip, and foot/ankle, as well as sports medicine. The clinic also houses multidisciplinary spine and concussion programs. Full services include:

  • Family medicine
  • Imaging/radiology (CT, sonography, X-ray)
  • Multidisciplinary spine
  • Neurology (general, headache program, and concussion program)
  • Physical therapy

In early June, UT Southwestern moved into a new, 106,000+ square-foot outpatient facility in Fort Worth’s medical district, offering care and consultations in more than a dozen specialties.

The UT Southwestern Monty and Tex Moncrief Medical Center at Fort Worth is staffed with UTSW faculty physicians. Among the specialties, subspecialties, and services the facility offers are:

  • Allergy/immunology
  • Dermatology
  • Endocrinology
  • Laboratory services
  • Ophthalmology
  • Otolaryngology/head and neck surgery

The new outpatient center in Fort Worth builds on UT Southwestern’s expansion in recent years at the nearby Moncrief Cancer Institute, which houses a satellite facility of UTSW’s Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center.
