Committed to Improving Health
As part of one of the top academic medical centers in the world, the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center works to improve health through innovative patient care, cutting-edge research, and leading education programs.
Our mission is threefold:
- To provide excellent primary care to individuals and families
- To train culturally competent physicians to serve underserved populations throughout North Texas
- To conduct clinical, health services, and community participatory research that positively impacts patient outcomes
The department includes two residency training sites and four ambulatory practices. Our physicians provide inpatient care at Parkland Hospital, as well as in nursing homes, hospice and palliative care settings. We also offer care in the areas of sleep medicine and sports medicine.
Meet the Team
Our clinicians, educators, and scholars are a cohesive group that strives to deliver outstanding care to all our patients, improve the way primary care is provided, and educate exceptional family physicians for the coming generation.

Patient Care
In the health care arena, the family physician coordinates a patient’s day-to-day and overall care. Our faculty members have daily working relationships with hundreds of UT Southwestern specialists – cardiologists, orthopaedic surgeons, oncologists, and many others – which ensures that each patient receives the very best coordinated care.
