Ocular Oncology

The ocular oncology team at UT Southwestern specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the eye, eyelid, orbit (eye socket), and optic nerve in children and adults.

Our interdisciplinary team features UT Southwestern experts from ophthalmology, medical oncology, pediatric oncology, radiation oncology, clinical genetics, neurosurgery, interventional radiology, pathology, and dermatology who provide compassionate care for patients with all types of eye cancer.

Advanced Care for Cancer of the Eye and Surrounding Areas

Cancer that develops in or around the eye can be difficult to treat because of the risk that vision may be affected.

Our ocular oncologists have extensive training and skill in diagnosing and treating all types of eye cancers while preserving eyesight whenever possible.

At the forefront of their field, our ocular oncologists use the latest technologies to provide patients with the best treatments available. We work closely with UT Southwestern’s nationally recognized radiation oncologists to offer advanced forms of radiation treatment, such as precision plaque brachytherapy and robotic CyberKnife stereotactic radiotherapy.

Our ocular oncologists also partner with Children’s Medical Center Dallas to offer the latest innovations in treatment for retinoblastoma – a cancer of the retina in young children – including intra-arterial chemotherapy (IAC), which has dramatically improved the outcomes for children with this eye cancer.
