Biography

Andrew K. Simpson, M.D., M.B.A., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Department of Neurological Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is Chief of Spine Surgery and Director of the Spine Center at UT Southwestern and a world expert on minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery.

Dr. Simpson earned his medical degree at Yale School of Medicine. He completed Harvard’s Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He received advanced training through a spine surgery fellowship at Emory University. Dr. Simpson trained internationally with the world’s top authorities on endoscopic and minimally invasive spine surgery procedures. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from MIT.

Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Simpson joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2024. He was previously Chief of Spine Surgery at Harvard.

Dr. Simpson has published and presented more than 100 scientific articles, abstracts, and textbook chapters, with a focus on minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery.
