Biography
Jeomi Okwara, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in sports cardiology, athlete's heart, hypertensive heart disease, echocardiography, and general cardiology.
Raised in Arlington, Texas, Dr. Okwara holds a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She earned her medical degree and completed a residency in internal medicine at UT Southwestern Medical School. She received advanced training in cardiovascular disease through a fellowship at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque.
She also was a recipient of the Southwestern Medical Foundation Scholarship for Academic Achievement.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, and echocardiography, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2020.
Dr. Okwara has delivered invited lectures and published academic articles related to her areas of expertise. She currently serves as CME Editor of the journal Circulation.
She is a member of the American College of Cardiology.
Personal Note
When she’s not at work, Dr. Okwara enjoys riding her Peloton bicycle; playing, watching, and coaching basketball; and spending time with family.
